Quarter Midgets racing is basically a type of street racing. These types of racing have been a part of the American sports scene since the 1970's, and they are becoming increasingly popular among the general public as time goes by. The cars that are used in these type of races are about one-third the size of an average full-sized midget.
Typically, the race cars that are used in quarter midgets are about one-third the size of an average full-sized car. The car that they use for racing will be about twenty to thirty pounds lighter than what would be found on the streets. This is because the cars that are used for racing will be on the track for only a few seconds at a time. Because they are so small and light, the cars are able to go faster on the racetrack and reach higher speeds than would be possible for a larger vehicle.
The most common types of quarter midgets that are seen on the street are the street-legal versions. These are generally the smallest and lightest models available and are legal to drive on the roads in all fifty states of America. Many people will only participate in this type of racing if they are able to prove to the authorities that they are legally allowed to do so. This can often take some time to accomplish, so it is often a good idea to look for local tracks that allow this type of racing before you commit to a long term involvement.
It is important to note that many of the tracks that host quarter midgets have a very small speed limit on the street. There may be only a one or two-hundred miles per hour speed limit for street courses, so if you plan on participating in this type of racing on a regular basis it is best to try to avoid areas that have a higher speed limit, as this may get your car into trouble on the racetrack.
You may not be able to participate in a race on a street course, but it is possible for you to compete in a road race. These types of races will normally be much smaller than the ones that are used for street racing, and they will require that you get out of your car and walk across the track for about one hundred yards at a time. This is very slow speed, but it is faster than it would be if you were driving on a street course, which would be about five or six hundred feet.
If you are interested in racing, there are several places that offer a variety of different types of racing for individuals and teams to take part in, including the ability level of the driver as well as the car that they will be racing in. If you do not see a street circuit near where you live, there is no reason to give up the chance to race a full size car because of lack of options.
